Frequently Asked Questions
Your Dog Trained For You
-
Unlike traditional coaching, where a dog trainer teaches you how to train your dog once a week, day training is where the trainer works directly with your dog multiple times a week. This makes the training both faster and more effective.
Day training allows me to do the work for you so you can enjoy your dog without the stress.
-
Day training occurs 3 times per week with your dog, and once a week with you. I work directly with your dog for faster, longer lasting results, and each week “transfer” those new skills to you so they stick with your dog after I’m no longer your trainer.
-
There are so many!
For the human, you don’t have to try and fit one more thing into your already busy schedule. Your dog is trained for you during the day while you’re at work, grocery shopping, or wherever! You also don’t have to learn how to train your dog, you just get to enjoy the results.
For your dog, the benefits are numerous. Your dog learns faster through more frequent repetitions of learning. The results are longer-lasting because your dog learns directly from a trainer with expert knowledge in behavior modification.
Your dog also gets to practice their skills in lots of environments, making the learning stick even more.

Day training is great for basic manners and life skills including:
Down
Settle on a mat
Recall
Loose leash walking
Frustration-based behaviors
Building confidence
Over-excitability
General anxiety
-
All of my training methods are rooted in positive reinforcement. I do not use any aversive tools or techniques, such as e-collars (shock/beep/vibration collars), prong collars, choke chains, slip leads, balanced training, or punishment based methods.
I use a combination of tools and protocols such as counter-conditioning, desensitization, BAT (behavior adjustment training), pattern games, engagement-disengagement, reinforcing calm behaviors, and focus cues. Training is focused on positive and fun learning experiences for your dog!
By addressing the root cause of the behavior such as fear, anxiety, or frustration, your dog will be able to experience the world calmly and confidently, without going over threshold or being trigger-stacked.
-
There are no guarantees in dog training. But with a fast-paced program like day training, and an expert trainer doing the work. the learning happens at a faster rate and with more consistency. This helps the learning stick better.
-
This program is for basic manners. Reactivity requires a different approach and a longer time frame. If your dog struggles with big feelings, my Reactivity Training might be a better fit.

Positive training is always the first step for behavior modification. Sometimes, the underlying cause of the behavior can be so strong that medication is needed to help the training stick.
If we decide that medication might be beneficial for your dog, I will support you with a veterinary referral and will share notes and updates with everyone on the training team.
-
Yes! Most dog parents have been dealing with behavior issues for a long time. My clients often come to me after seeing several other trainers or trying different training methods themselves. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, frustrated, tired, or at the end of your leash you are not alone.
Training is not about quick fixes. I work with you and your dog to rebuild your relationship, develop trust, and change habits. All of this takes time and practice, and we’ll work at your dog’s pace for the most effective results.
Financial Support
Because positive relationship building with your dog shouldn’t be a financial burden, I offer a limited sliding scale for those unable to pay the full rate. Please contact me if you would like to discuss this option.
Additionally, because adoption from a shelter or rescue is such an incredible way to support your community and provide a loving home to a dog in need, I offer a10% discount for the first month of membership for newly adopted dogs (from both rescues and shelters). Not only do many dogs in shelters and rescues not have basic skills, but the adjustment period into your home is such a special and important time to support their learning!
