Frequently Asked Questions
-
Similar to traditional dog training, we’ll meet once a week and connect between sessions. With virtual dog training, instead of meeting in person, it’s all done through your computer or smartphone!
-
If you have a computer or smartphone you’re most of the way there! Our weekly sessions will be held over Zoom and our chat and video sharing will be through WhatsApp. You can download both of these through the Apple and Android app stores.
-
While the time commitment is about the same as in-person dog training, the level of involvement for dog parents in virtual training is high. This is because you will be learning from video demonstrations, recording your own videos, and reviewing feedback and sending chat messages regularly.
-
Virtual training is done through a monthly membership. This means training sessions can’t be skipped or scheduled for later. Consistency in skills practice (for both you and your dog) is a critical component of training success!
-
It depends! Most clients find that 3-6 months is a good start. Both reactivity and adolescence are things that take time and patience to work through. Your mileage may vary and each dog and human is a unique situation.
-
Virtual training is helpful for many behavior issues! My training focuses on reactivity and things that come up during adolescence such as focus, engagement, leash skills, and basic skills and manners.
-
Virtual dog training is great for so many people and their dogs! It’s best for those who have the time and desire to practice and record their training sessions, can work with their dog 15-30 minutes a day several times a week, and can check in regularly through text.
It’s also beneficial for shy, fearful, or reactive dogs since they can work in the comfort of their own home without a stranger present.
Financial Support
Because positive relationship building with your dog shouldn’t be a financial burden, I offer a limited sliding scale for those unable to pay the full rate. Please contact me if you would like to discuss this option.
Additionally, because adoption from a shelter or rescue is such an incredible way to support your community and provide a loving home to a dog in need, I offer a10% discount for the first month of membership for newly adopted dogs (from both rescues and shelters). Not only do many dogs in shelters and rescues not have basic skills, but the adjustment period into your home is such a special and important time to support their learning!
